Construction starts on 164 new homes next to Palm Springs olive-tree farm

Work has begun on 164 residences in a new home community next to an olive-tree farm in the Coachella Valley.

The 300-acre Miralon in Palm Springs will feature a noteworthy design element itll be built around a working olive-tree farm where a golf course had been envisioned. The project is said to be one of the nations largest agricultural neighborhoods, or agri-hoods, where new homes crop up around community farms.

Here are the companies that developer Freehold Communities has lined up to build the first residences in a community that will eventually house 1,150 residences. Prices at Miralon are expected to run from the high-$300,000s to at least the mid-$700,000s

Woodbridge Pacific Group of Mission Viejo: 44 homes, with as many as three bedrooms and 2,800 square feet. Models are expected to open in November.

Christopher Homes of Newport Beach: 70 homes, with as many as three bedrooms and 2,200 square feet. Models are expected to open in January 2020.

Gallery Homes of Canyon Lake: 50 single-family residences, with up to 4 bedrooms and 3,200 square feet. Models are expected to open in January 2020.

Coachella Valley homebuying last year was essentially flat.

ATTOM Data Solutions found in 17 ZIP codes covering the area around Palm Springs and the Coachella Valley, 10,733 homes sold vs. 10,817 a year earlier, a decline of 0.8 percent.

Prices increased in 13 of this regions ZIPs, while sales rose in six ZIPs.
